The Facilitator

Inbound in one minute.

I lit the strip of bedsheet tucked in the bottle’s throat. The Toyota Tercel ahead of me looked sickly beneath the streetlamp. Shields and batons lurched closer like a wave.

The couch groans. I flip on the t.v., the digital recorder. A firewheel cracks against the hood of a car. White smoke gathers, looms. Channel 8 loved it.
