Carley Moore in “My Life With Pills”:
We haven’t yet met in person. We are already texting too much. As someone who has been single now for almost three years, I know how easy it is to create a person out of language. The sooner you meet the better.
I think about this all the time. Yesterday I kept asking myself, “How do you build trust online?” You can’t. We were never meant to. We have to face each other. We have to be embodied. We must always want to meet. Force ourseLves to meet. I write less and less to the people I don’t know. I won’t build fantasies—or love—with/out of language. It’s too easy. Words only matter when we know each other. Then we can give them. Trust them.
