One of my favorite moments/scenes/frames of any film. Of this film. The realization of gaslighting is the secret/real horror of Rosemary’s Baby. Rosemary knows. She knows the moment it happens. She knows the moment she knows. Rosemary, who is so good at keeping up appearances, knows her husband/marriage is fake and dangerous and mediocre. She knows Guy (the name of all guys. “Don’t be a guy. Be a man”—Corey to Lloyd in Say Anything) is in that room fucking her over. Making a bad deal.
That terrible doorframe (wafting smoke and silence filling up the space betwixt) is everything. Is Rosemary’s life being ruined. Bresson: doorways are portals of mystery.
