Some of those fans (I’m one) discovered that years of our lives, and an alarming proportion of our emotional capital, had been colored out, filled in, and made more beautiful by the hours and days that Clare Wadd and Matt Haynes spent listening to demo tapes, folding sleeve inserts, answering snail mail, and (not least) paying bills from the label’s cramped quarters.
