The money will be used to purchase a used school bus so I can travel with a band from community to community teaching poetry to the underserved through music, art and interpretive dance. Each workshop will end with the beautification of a certain underserved area in the community (such as a crack house, or trash-covered vacant lot) followed by a poetry reading given by illiterate members of the community—especially young children, because poetry can not only help this population read, it can show them how to feel about reading, themselves, the community, and reading in and about the community itself. For it is in illiteracy that we find the poetry of tomorrow—and in tomorrow we find the illiterate of today. Do you have direct deposit? Do you have direct deposit? Do you have direct deposit?
